How We Rate Bookmakers

Every bookmaker review on StatsBet follows a structured, transparent methodology. We evaluate operators across 8 weighted categories to produce a final rating out of 10.

Rating Scale

Each category is scored from 1 to 10. The final rating is a weighted average of all category scores, rounded to one decimal place. Our color coding reflects the overall quality:

8.0 - 10.0
Excellent — highly recommended
6.0 - 7.9
Good — solid with some drawbacks
Below 6.0
Below average — significant issues

Rating Categories

The 8 categories below are weighted to reflect what matters most to bettors. Licensing carries the highest weight because player safety is non-negotiable.

Licensing and Regulation

20%

The most important factor. We verify that every bookmaker we review holds a valid license from a reputable authority such as the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), Danish Gambling Authority (DGA), Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), or equivalent bodies. Unlicensed operators receive no rating and are not featured on the site. We also assess regulatory history, fines, and player dispute records.

Odds Quality

20%

We compare odds across dozens of markets and hundreds of matches to calculate average margin (overround). Lower margins mean better value for bettors. We benchmark each bookmaker against industry averages for football match result, over/under, and BTTS markets. Consistently competitive odds receive the highest scores in this category.

Market Coverage

15%

We evaluate the breadth and depth of available betting markets. This includes the number of leagues and competitions covered, the variety of bet types offered per match (match result, Asian handicap, corners, cards, goalscorer markets, etc.), and the availability of live/in-play betting. Operators with broad global coverage and niche markets score highest.

User Experience

10%

We assess the quality of the website and overall user interface. This includes site speed, navigation clarity, bet slip usability, search functionality, live match visualization, and account management. A well-designed, intuitive platform that makes it easy to find markets and place bets scores higher.

Payment Methods

10%

We review the range of deposit and withdrawal options available, including bank transfers, credit/debit cards, e-wallets (Skrill, Neteller, PayPal), mobile payments, and cryptocurrency where applicable. Processing times, fees, minimum/maximum limits, and the overall reliability of the payment experience are all evaluated.

Customer Support

10%

We test customer support channels directly: live chat response time and quality, email response time, availability of phone support, and help center comprehensiveness. We assess support in multiple languages where relevant. Operators with 24/7 live chat staffed by knowledgeable agents score highest.

Bonuses and Promotions

10%

We evaluate both the headline value and the fairness of terms. Welcome bonuses, free bets, ongoing promotions, and loyalty programs are assessed. Critically, we scrutinize wagering requirements, minimum odds restrictions, time limits, and maximum win caps. A generous bonus with unfair terms scores lower than a modest bonus with transparent conditions.

Mobile Experience

5%

We test the mobile experience on both iOS and Android devices. This includes native app quality (if available), mobile web responsiveness, feature parity with the desktop version, and performance on varying connection speeds. Operators with a polished, full-featured mobile experience score highest.

Review Process

Each review involves creating a real account, making deposits and withdrawals, placing bets across multiple markets, testing customer support, and using both desktop and mobile platforms. Reviews are updated at least quarterly to reflect changes in the operator's offering.

Our reviews are editorially independent. Affiliate partnerships do not influence ratings. For more details, see our editorial policy and business model pages.
